This always puzzles guests - why is there a bricked over archway with the date 1764?
The answer to the mystery lies in plans that never were realized. upgrade plans for a walkthrough cavern and tunnel connecting New Orleans Square and Tom Sawyer’s Island.
The “plot” being that a pirate who owned the Haunted Mansion for a time had buried treasure underneath the river and sealed up the entrance with bricks and a curse…
Unfortunately the planned update never happened, but this bricked up arch still remains…

I have to go in here next trip… I don’t think I’ve like ever, ever eaten here, and I’ve been to Disneyland more than 20 times.
Meeting Merlin by Loren Javier on Flickr.
why do I always forget to sign up for these walks?
UGH MERLIN I MISS YOU SO MUCH.
I saw him later in the day and asked him about the walk. He said he had so much fun being out and about again. I wish they’d just let this happen more often. I miss seeing that crazy wizard in action.
MERLIN. Your hair is different! Your
dressrobes are different! Your hat is different! You are not as I remember you! D=Still though, it’s really good to see you out and about again.

- The Pirates of the Caribbean ride inspired the films starring Johnny Depp. See how many scenes from the movies you can recognize (hint: Jack Sparrow is there three times), and don’t miss the song.
- Young children may be frightened by the special effects and noise.
- This attraction includes two short, steep waterfalls. Don’t go if you have back or neck trouble.
- This ride is cool inside, perfect for a hot afternoon.
